Heard a great statement this week. “Feelings make poor leaders!” Wow did that hit home for me. I’m not sure about you but for me sometimes my feelings try to drive my direction, my decisions (or lack of) and even my outlook. What I have realized is that sometimes I need to bring these feelings into submission. Now, I’m not saying that we need to ignore what we are feeling but I am saying we need to be careful of letting our feelings be in charge.
I have been training with Christian Simpson with the John Maxwell Team and in one of our coaching sessions he reminded us that our life journey creates paradigms that our body sees as the truth. Through our paradigm we make decisions even though they may not be the best thing for us. Some of our feelings are conditioned by our life journey and our paradigm begins to tell us this feels bad. Be careful this will not be good. You better be careful. It is at this point that we need to take charge.
The good book says bring every thought into submission and I would suggest we need to do the same thing with our feelings. Sometimes we need to challenge what we are feeling. Sometimes we need to push through our feelings, do a little research, get some different perspectives and push forward. Sometimes it is time to change our paradigm and teach our feelings some new lessons. It is time to move past our old baggage (check out my book Choices to find out more) and our old paradigms and tell our feelings to take a back seat and let’s lead ourselves to the next level in our journey. Not easy but necessary.
Remember, Feelings make poor leaders so lets help them and lead ourselves! You got this! Go change some paradigms today!
