“Action without thought = reaction. Action with thought creates response.” Matt Hanish
Heard a great quote at a meeting on Thursday morning. Action without thought equals reaction. Wow! Pretty powerful. It really shed some light on what happens to us a lot of times. We move and react without thought or planning. I teach a Priority Management class on Maximizing Your Time and one of the things we unpack is Quadrants.
Quadrant One is Important and Urgent. Quadrant Two is Important but Not Urgent. Quadrant Three is Urgent but Not Important. Quadrant Four is Not Urgent and Not Important. When I ask the class where we should spend most of our time they responded with Quadrant One. Urgent and Important. That sadly is where most of us spend our time. We run around all day taking care of issues, crisis, putting out fires and reacting. Sounds exhausting doesn’t it. I say let’s stop. Let’s take a Do-over.
Starting tomorrow, let’s take 15-20 minutes in the morning and look over our task list. Let’s look over our calendar and start to plan. Let’s take a few moments and think. Where do I need to be everyday. What are the most important task on my list and when can I start working on those task. Let’s take a step toward Quadrant Two. Let’s start working on the important things so they don’t become the urgent things.
You got this! I know you can do it. It will take 4-6 weeks to get good at it but stay the course. Let’s slow down. Think and plan. Let’s Quadrant Two. Remember, Action with thought creates response.
