Significance

“We need to get rid of the notion that prominence is the definition of significance- prominence happens to a few people, significance is intended for every person.”

Jack Hayford

If you are like me you might find yourself looking around and feeling like you don’t measure up. It feels like what others are doing is so much more amazing than what I’m doing. They seem to be on top of their game. Their family seems so put together. It sure looks like they are getting really good results. We need to stop. Our journey has nothing to do with anybody else’s journey. Is their situation or their results really that important to what you are called to do?

My coaching would be let’s move from their impact, their prominence, their significance to our impact and our significance. We need to zero in on what we are called and gifted to do. We need to become laser focused on maximizing our impact in the world. You might not realize the impact you are making. You may not realize the influence you are having on those around you. Don’t sell yourself short. You could be making a significant impacts in your family, your church, your department, your company and even your industry and not even realize it. Let’s get our eyes off others and on to where we are going and what we are trying to achieve.

I had a chance to work with teenagers several years ago. We met every Sunday morning and discussed issues and life stuff as it related to teenagers but also how you could begin to start impacting your future by the plans and behaviors you start today. 10 years later I saw a young woman, her husband and 2 small kids walking toward me. She asked if I remembered her and I ask her if her name was Christi? She was amazed and said yes. She shared that she was in town and wanted to come see me to share something with me. She said I probably would not remember the Sunday or our lesson that day but that what we discussed and the notes she had taken had changed her life and she just wanted to stop and say thank you for taking the time to share some of my journey and insight. It had been life changing!

This is what we all need to remember everyday. The Good Book reminds us to be a breath of fresh air everywhere we go, all day and every day. You just showing up and committing to make a difference. To pursue with passion the calling and impact you feel for you, your family or organization is powerful! It is significant. You can and will impact and change lives if you stay focused on your journey and impact and invite others to use their skills and passions to go with you. I know some people say “it is just work”, but it doesn’t have to be. We can be the best CPA firm and impact our clients and employees in amazing and life changing ways. We can be the best manufacturing plant and impact our customers and employees in amazing and life changing ways. We can be the best Real Estate firm and impact our clients and employees in amazing and life changing ways.  We can be the best Home Building Company and impact our customers, trade partners, and employees in amazing and life changing ways.

We can do this! Let’s take the next 30 days and refocus. What are we called to do? What impact are we trying to make in our family, department, company, church or industry? Let’s get crystal clear on that journey and then start the process of creating Raving Fans. Raving Fan customers. Raving Fan employees. Raving Fan Suppliers. Raving Fan church members.

Significance! Go For It!!
