I’ll be doing company training with an amazing company in Memphis, Tenn. next week. Magnolia Homes (yourmagnoliahome.com). One of our sessions will be on Amazing Company Culture. I wanted to share the 7 attributes of amazing places to work.
We will start with the understanding of what great leaders, owners and managers understand that help create amazing culture.
Create and maintain an environment in which people can accomplish goals,
efficiently and effectively.
- Environment needs to be – Consistent, Reliable, Efficient, Effective, Instill discipline, Engage the whole person, mind, and body.
- Need a unity of purpose – Mission statement, Lack of chaos, Standardized processes and procedures, Clarify the environment, Remove obstacles, confusion, and uncertainty, Positive, motivational workplace environment, Open and frequent communication, Morale boosting atmosphere.
- Fair treatment and understanding of employees – Non-threatening environment, Clear objectives and directives, High standards of performance, Instill Pride, Realistic stretch goals, people liked to be challenged.
- Great systems – Poor Systems account for 85% or more of all underperformances, Allow people to talk about de motivating issues, Correct those issues, Delegate appropriate authority. Authority, responsibility, accountability, Empower self-management, job control, control destiny.
- Encourage employee initiative – No blame culture, Give employees a complete job with measurable results, Don’t over specialize jobs, Reward and recognize high performers, What you reward is what you will get, Unity of command, only one boss.
- Provide feedback on performance – Pay attention to social needs of employees, Enjoy camaraderie, Create team social events, Good systems to clarify the working environment, Organizational chart, Job descriptions and position guides, Clear policies, Clear procedures, Clear work rules.
- The power of measuring – What we need are ways to measure the intangibles, R&D, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction. Everything is measured, posted, and rewarded. Talk about the customer. Highlight the right heroes. Treat people with respect. Listen. Everyone knows why their job is important and the impact it makes for the company.
