Do we really know them?

One persons minutia is another persons mission? Stephen Covey

Great line from 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I know for myself I am totally guilty of using my filter not the filter of others. I’m sure you have been in a situation where something very important to you needed to be completed but the other person or the team did not complete the task or request. We then get super frustrated, irritated maybe even angry about dropping the ball with this thing that was so important to me. When or if we stop and take time to find out why, we begin to understand that it was only important to me and not very important to the the other person, the team or maybe even the organization.

Seek first to understand and then to be understood is a great chapter from the book but also a great filter we should use everyday. Understanding the other persons filter, process, work load, goals will help all of us work together better, achieve more and take a lot of stress, frustration and anger off the table and create a better working environment!

Homework: take some tim this week to ask everyone else what is important to them and how can you help!
