And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?
Great line from the Good Book. For me, it challenges me to understand the “Reap what you sow” philosophy. A lot a times I’m looking to push my ideas forward. I’m looking to get everyone on my side and agreeing with my point of view. I’m looking out for my property, my company or personal real estate. I often see this when I’m coaching high level leaders or owners. They often have an idea about how things should be done (their property/ their real company/ personal real estate) often without regard for other opinions or insights into the situation. If you have been reading my blogs for a while you know I believe WE will always out perform ME.
You cannot serve yourself, your agenda or your way and any disagreement or push back is sent packing. Agree, get on board, or hit the road! You will hate one and serve the other. Another great line from the Good Book. Are you serving yourself or others? I know for me, sometimes I not only get frustrated when people won’t listen to me (especially when I have the best idea, lol) sometimes it even turns into anger. That is what the statement tells us. If we are serving ourselves and everyone is falling into place behind us, we are good. But, when they try to go a different way (maybe the better way) we can get frustrated and even angry. Hate may be too strong, but I know of situations where great team mates challenged the owner/ leader with great alternatives and ended up getting fired for rocking the boat.
To me, these attitudes of always being in charge, always being right, always needing to get what I want go back to that ever present inner voice that is constantly whispering in our ear those negative untruths. The voice tells us: They need to be reminded you are in charge. This is your call, they should listen to you. Their idea could not be as good as mine, they have almost no experience. If we really want to grow a great organization. If we really want to grow a great team and great culture. If we really want to maximize our profits, productivity, communication, accountability, team work and market share, then we need to change what we are sowing.
7 Habits of Highly Effective People challenges us to “Seek first to understand and then to be understood.” It challenges us to “Begin with the end in mind.” We need to be clear on where we are going and what we are trying to achieve. We then need to ask our people if they understand and how they think we can best achieve our desired results. Then, watch how the creativity, input, buy in, and accountability start to change.
‘It will be a tough transition but an amazing transition. Not enough GREAT organizations in the world. Why can’t your department or company be GREAT! Even AMAZING!
You got this. Let’s make 2022 the most amazing and impactful year ever!
Let me know if you need some help. Maybe some coaching or consulting on the transition and change.
