Daniel Goleman introduced us to the importance of emotional intelligence. In his book, Emotional Intelligence, Daniel suggest that EI (emotional intelligence) is more important that IQ. Being able to work with others, work on a team, respect others, and get along is massively important.
From His book “Didn’t See it Coming”, Carey Nieuwhof gives us a brief overview of what emotionally intelligent people look like.
Emotionally intelligence people:
1. Understand their impact on others. How do my emotions and actions impact others? Self-aware people refuse to let a bad day on the inside, spill out to others on the outside. They become more interested in other people than themselves.
2. Understand their weaknesses. They understand their weaknesses and they limit their activities in those areas. It allows others to shine and keeps them in their strength areas.
3. Understand the their strengths. You have gifts, skills, talents, and abilities and you lean into them.
4. Understand their limits. They are self aware and realize what they can do, and what they cannot do and where others needs to step in. When they need a break, they take one. When they are tired, they rest.
Let’s refocus on our impact, our weaknesses, our strengths, and our limits and move toward creating a bigger impact in our company, with our team, in our community, and even in our family.
You got this! Let’s grow up and maximize our impact and influence in the world.
