Forcing our Way

Heard an interesting comment last week. “Far too many people are trying to make things happen, to force their way into the opportunity or success.”

I know for sure that: working hard, being diligent, going after the goal with all you have in you are all positive strategies but when does our passion and drive cross the line? I think one red flag is that feeling that we have gone a little too far. Maybe knowingly over committing to get the deal. Maybe cutting corners of withholding some of the information to make the deal look better than it should.

Have you ever found yourself not sharing everything because they never asked? Have you ever found yourself coaching a direct report or team mate of not volunteering all of the information? Maybe they won’t ask. Maybe they won’t find out until after we sign the deal. These behaviors are walking on very thin ice. My opinion would be that getting the deal at all cost should probably not be the most important thing.

One of the reasons we coach Core Values, Clear Mission, Clear Vision of who you are and where you are going is to create the structure to help manage the business, our deals, our team mates and how we want to conduct our business and what we are trying to achieve. John Maxwell says decide early who you want to be and how you want to conduct yourself or your business and then manage all future decisions through those values you have decided are most important to you. Then, when you are not sure if you are crossing the line your  Core Values, Mission and Vision will be there as the filter and guide to keep you on the right course.

If you have not taken the time to unpack your Vision, Mission and Core Values then email me and we can set up a time to chat to see if we can help you move forward in your personal journey or with your department or company. bmink@choiceconsultingman.com
