I think it is important to understand who we are and what value we bring to your sphere of influence. In my new book coming out late next year, “Navigating Leadership: Know Yourself, Know Your Value, Know Your People, Know Your Numbers”, we unpack the importance of not only self awareness but the value of who you are and what impact you can make through your experiences and the skills and perspectives you bring to the table.
Know Yourself: What is your leadership style? What are your personality traits. What do you love? What are you good at? What do you hate? What really drains you or frustrates you? Knowing yourself helps you understand how you can impact a situation or decision and clarify areas where you might need help or advice or even empower others.
Know Yourself: When are you at your best? Early mornings? Mid afternoon? In the evening? Understanding your personal clock can help you navigate your day better and more effectively. If you have the most energy and creativity early in the morning, then plan your calendar and task lists to do the most important things early every day. Save the things that need less focus and energy for later in the day.
Know Yourself: Do you struggle giving things away? Delegating? You need to unpack what may be causing the lack of trust or fear and begin to work on overcoming this challenge. John Maxwell’s “Law of the Lid” reminds us that we will never grow past our capacity unless we increase our capacity by equipping and empowering others.
We will unpack some additional areas of knowing yourself over the next few weeks. Stay tuned!
