Our Value

People who devalue us do not determine our value.

Great reminder. You know what your mom or maybe grandma use to say. “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me.” We now know that is way off. Negative words can cripple people for life if we let them. But, the words, in themselves, do not carry power. The power is given to the words when we let them sink in. We start to consider they might be right. We start to buy in and agree. Hold up!

Let’s not let what others say negatively about us determine who we are. Just because someone might be looking down at you. Your job. Your home. Your looks. Your talents. Your upbringing, etc. does not mean they get to decide who you are and what you can accomplish. We were all created differently and uniquely to impact and make a difference in our little area of the world.

So remember, “People who devalue us do not determine our value.“

Amen!

  1. “I think therefore I am” Rene’ Decarte.

I find myself an introverted thinker, I am delayed in fully absorbing what was said in the moment, and I revisit the conversation in my mind so that I may contemplate what was said and HOW it was said, which to me is much more impactful to my thoughts. The emotion that flows with the negative critique from another tends to linger and I personally tend to revisit the interaction and analyze what was said comparing and contrasting in my mind, and I either add or detract validity of the statement and then, sometimes my inner child can take over and I emote and wallow in it or I move on in denial knowing my selves better than anyone. Never know how that water will feel until you stick your toe in it. Some of us are hardwired to over analyze these issues while others appear to be able to shrug and move on without a hitch?
