“We need to get rid of the notion that prominence is the definition of significance- prominence happens to a few people, significance is intended for every person.”- Jack Hayford
Prominence – the state of being important or famous.
What an interesting perspective. Have you ever found yourself looking for approval of others? The bosses, my coworkers, my family members, my friends? It seems there is something inside us that pushes really hard for acceptance and approval. It seems like we have a desire to be known and maybe a little above the others. I think sometimes we are striving for prominence. To be perceived to be a little better than the next person. I’m not sure there is really anything wrong with striving to be the best and to be noticed for that hard work and achievement but, I think we are selling ourselves short.
Significant – having or likely to have influence or effect
It would seem to me that significance may be what we want to chase after. I think I would rather help someone along in their journey to be the best they can be and have the biggest impact they can have. Zig Ziglar says “if you help enough people get what they want, they will help you get what you want.” (https://www.ziglar.com/) I think it would be better to be remembered for everyone you helped and poured into along your journey rather than being remembered for the one thing that pushed you above everyone else.
Let’s work on influencing and positively impacting others and watch how those individuals might impact us as a result of our efforts to help them.
You got this! Go crush it this week!
