The greatest need of a human being is psychological survival-to be understood, to be affirmed, to be validated and to be appreciated. Stephen Covey
Im not sure I’ve ever been exposed to this thought before. But as I begin to get a little understanding and clarity it does make a lot of sense. Having been in management or leadership positions for years you do begin to understand the power in a persons well being and how that affects the job and their performance.
You notice this comment does not say make lots of money, have a great office, give them lots of stuff, cut back working hours or give away free food and drinks in your office. It says understand who they are and there passions. Let them know they have an important place on the team and they are needed on that team. Let them know how much you appreciate them and what they do. Let them know that what they do is very important to where we are going. Let’s try this on our team members starting this week and see what happens!
