The Law of the Lid John Maxwell
John Maxwell shared with us what happens when leaders or managers try to be the filter or funnel that everything needs to flow through before moving forward. As an organization or department grows we can no longer manage or lead like we have in the past. The Law of the Lid states that the growth will be stifled and held back as the manager or leader tries to hold on to control.
The response we need to take is to find out what our true gifts and passions are as leaders and managers and stay focused in those areas and find talented people to surround ourselves with that can better manage the areas we are weak in. As we hand off responsibilities and ownership we open up our department or organization for great growth potential. So let’s not be the Lid holding everyone back. Give some of the responsibility away and let other people thrive and soar!
