Executive Toughness by Dr. Jason Selk
Being accountable in the business world is very difficult for two reasons.
- We allow our schedules to become over packed. Trying to do too much creates increased stress and pressure. We feel overwhelmed. Sometimes we feel so overwhelmed that we become paralyzed and almost accomplish nothing. We shut down.
- CD – Cognitve Dissonance. A self protection mechanism used to justify our actions. Our brains want our experience to line up with our beliefs, attitudes and expectations; when there is a disconnect, or dissonance, we become so uncomfortable that we tend to change what we think to align with what we feel. Often, that change involves justifying our mistakes, blaming others, and denying responsibility. We make excuses! Excuses are the opposite of accountability!
So lets break the cycle. What do you say. Let’s step up and take responsibility no matter how bad it feels and how tough it may be. Wouldn’t hurt to take a look at our schedule at the same time and insert a little margin. Some space to breathe and catch up. It will make all the difference!

I love the comment about the statement below
1.We allow our schedules to become over packed. Trying to do too much creates increased stress and pressure. We feel overwhelmed. Sometimes we feel so overwhelmed that we become paralyzed and almost accomplish nothing. We shut down.
This is so true and we need to make sure that we learn to relax and spend time with family as much as possible. We cannot create stress we need to find ways to decrease them. To be great men of God and men of valor we need to exercise, socialize, pray, and make time for family. God wants us to be keep the torch up high and this is more of him and less of us. Thanks for posting my brother I read these posts and am blessed with it. Don’t you think I am not reading. I am. 🙂
