When we follow the process and don’t get the results we want, we don’t have all the facts. We don’t see the global perspective or the influence journey of relationships and what I need to learn.
This statement really challenged me. My personality is a “D” and “I” on the DISC profile system. The “D” or “Dominant” style means I like to make decisions, get things done, always looking to improve and push things forward. “I’ or “Influencer” means I like to inspire, work together, compete on results. But this statement is really hard to swallow with my personality, but I am beginning to understand it. Just because I follow the plan and do everything I think I am suppose to do, that does not guarantee the results I was after.
Maybe there is something bigger at work. I don’t get to see how what I am doing is impacting all the other people around me or the people in my department or in my company. It may be that I need to learn something from the poor results. Maybe someone on my team needed to learn something. Maybe the challenging results helped put us in a place for a new opportunity or fresh thoughts that propel us into a new paradigm or process.
I’m slowly learning to look at each situation in a new light. How can I help? Is there anything I can do different or better? What do my coworkers or team mates see in this situation? Is there anything we can learn as a team or organization? I have noticed that most of us are so busy that we show up with a giant task list and run wide open all day, everyday with our head down and don’t even realize the opportunities flying by us.
Homework: This week take a few minutes to review results, meet with your family, team, coworkers and spend sometime unpacking the journey and looking into all the details. Good and bad and see what you learn!
You got this. Go crush it this week!
