One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself. Shannon L. Alder
The Gecko effect is trying to blend in instead of standing out. Sometimes where we are trying to go and what we are trying to achieve is different than some of our competitors and observations and comments from those around us begin to make us question our decision to move forward in maybe a different way. There is wisdom in getting input from those you trust or from those who may be ahead of you on the journey but conforming to the status quo may not be the best move for you.
I think sometimes we forget that the most difficult voice to manage is the one we hear inside our head. If the voices around us, questioning our decisions to move differently, begin to influence what we are thinking and those “What If” comments begin to fill our heads, we begin to allow doubt and fear to be the strongest influences. Not great guides for amazing opportunities. They will paralyze us if we let them. We must strive to remove the fear of failure from our lives.
New opportunities and new impacts are always results of change. Doing what we have always done but expecting different results is the very definition of insanity. Let’s remove our excuses and turn down the voices of “You Can’t” and start on our journey of what might be. It might seem crazy but, what if it turns out to be amazing! You will never know what could have been unless you try.
