Its not what you do, it’s whatever you do.
Great line. Have you ever considered it’s not about what you do but about how you do whatever you do? In other words, life is too short to spend fretting over why do I have to do this? Why didn’t I get the raise? Why didn’t I get the promotion? How come they got the good job and I got stuck doing this?
Do you notice anything about each one of these statements? Yep, you got it. Lots of. “I’s”. Everything focusing on me, why me, poor me, not fair to me, missed me, my turn. You do realize if you thought about how I can knock whatever they ask me to do out of the park, then a lot of those questions would have been asked by someone else about you!
Face it, work is a game you get paid to play. (A game? Really? You are crazy!) How can I do my job better, faster, more efficiently and help those around me more than anyone else on the team? Yep, that’s the spirit. If they ask me to scrub the bathroom they will never see a bathroom cleaned as good as I clean it. Oh, and I took out the trash and put in a clean bag.
If they ask me to file papers, pick up trash, vacuum, organize the company softball team. Whatever they ask me to do. I’m going to crush it.
So, it’s not about what you do but about how you do, whatever it is you do. Choices Create Change so choose to be a rock star wherever you find yourself. It is your Choice you know!
